Task 10 – Understanding Pace

Task Ten – Understanding Pace

Speed of Editing

Speed of editing is how  editors make audience fill a certain way depending on how fast or slow a certain scene is edited.. if a scene is shot  fast it is is most likely means the editor is trying to create suspense for the editors. If the speed if slow this will most likely the editor wants a scene to be more relaxed or romantic depending on the film. if the edit is fast the scene will also be fast this means that will be a lot of cuts in-contrast to if the edit was slow this would make scene mush longer this could be because the editor wants the editor audience understand something or learn something etc that happened in the particular scene it also be an important past of a film so it needed to last longer than others.

Cross Cutting

Cross cutting is when to different sequences are showed in the same scene. This is done to let the audience know that both the sequences are happening at the same time but in different location. But are connected in some way shape or form.

CutAways

A cut away is when an editor decides to cut from one scene to another scene this is done to interrupt the last scene. This is used when a jump cut is not necessary.

Creating Pace

Creating pace is when you an editor decides if a certain scene needs to quick or long. if a film is fast paced then their will be a lot of quick shots with a lot cuts happening frequently. If film is slow paced on the other hand their will be a lot of long scenes and their won't be as many cuts.

Task 9 Non - Continuity

Non - Continuity

Non - Continuity editing was founded in the 1950s and was extremely popular through out 1960s. The filmmakers Jean luc Gordan and Francois Truffaut were one the first to use this type of editing Non-Continuity editing is when two or more shots are mismatched to make a scene look disrupted this is done so the audience is more alert and also they think more. This could be done with flashbacks.

A director may use a Non-Continuity type of editing style to keep the audience focused and so they notice why pacific scenes are filmed the way they are. The editing style could also be used to shock the audience and make them wonder why a certain film was shot it that particular way.

In  A Bout de SoufflĂ© jump cuts are used to draw action to a particular thing in the conversation

Task 7 – Understanding Continuity Editing

Task Seven – Understanding Continuity Editing

Continuity editing is a editing style that was created to smooth over and replace discontinuity editing. Continuity editing is used a lot when making films. the main purpose is to make shot look logical and make scene to the viewer and a film or show goes on.

Match on Action is when the editor of a film cuts from one shot to another that mathces the last action from the shot that was previous done.

Eye line is the path that the eye is looking for. It is typically used when people are having conversation some people may say that is like reverse shot

Reverse shot/shot is a technique used when characters are talking you need to take a shot of charter speaking or looking at something then another shot will be taken of another charter to show the illusion that a conversation is going on.

The 180 degree rule, helps film makers to understand what angle that they are filming in the first shot and where the next shot should be filmed due to this.

Task 6 - montage

MONTAGE

A montage is a combination of a lot different clips together that leads up to one outstanding moment this is known best from all the Rocky movies. The effect that montage has is to speed up time. In the Rocky movies montage is used so Rocky can get fit in minutes but yet create the effect that a lot of time has passed. A montage will normally always have music it is in this helps to allows everything to be speed up and for the movie to be cut up a lot of times and let it still look natural to the audience that are watching.

In this task we were asked to create a montage the montage style me an my group used was hollywood we did are best to try an duplicate the affect of the rocky movies and how there would be a montage in-between a big fight. The storyline this particular montage was a basketball game that was brought down to wire a time out is called and the ball is passed to me and then i score. This montage could have been improved if we had found away to make it more exciting.

AS1: Task 4 From Analogue to Digital Editing

AS1: Task 4 From Analogue to Digital Editing

 Analogue Editing

All traditional films were made up many images that were printed out. The were spliced or cut so the would look real. They where then fed through projector extremely fast to make the illusion that it is a film and that everything was moving.

Moviola
It was invented in 1924 by a man who was called Iwan Serrotier. It was created so that film editors would be able to see what they have edited. It was also  the first machine to be used for the purpose of feature length motion picture editing.

Video editing is the process of when an editor takes segments/parts of a video and then, cuts moves or adds effects to them. (You can also change the sounds in the video).

Linear video editing is the process that is done before the actual editing process has started this is done by arranging and changing the away the original video looked or was filmed, this has this has to be done before the editing or during filming.

Digital editing is the editing that most people in the 20th Century are use to or at least have heard off. this type of editing is normally done with editing software such as: Sony Vegas and Adobe After Effects etc. digital editing allows you to do thinks or make simple things done in during the filming look incredible this can be done through special affects or through animating etc

Analogue editing is the traditional way of editing. editing in the early days of editing was done by splicing, splicing is when you physically join pieces of film together this method was extremely so and on practical as if a mistake was to accrue you would have re-record the film and also re-edit.

Non-Liner editing is when you are either editing videos or audio it allows you to be able to access any part of a film or piece of audio and move it around this is really effective when making a film and did not record in a chronological order.

Task 2 - In camera editing exercise

In- Camera Editing Is a technique. where you don't need a computer or a expensive editing software like song vages or adobe after affects. But instead you just follow a strict order and film if it is done right it the video should look like how it would look when it is edited on a computer when it is cut up but obviously done without it. The process takes a long time to do because you need to have to know exactly how you wan't video took because you are not using a computer where you can record the end first and the beginning first the swap them around you need to get it right first time or it wont work, or have to record everything all over again so the planning a thought process is a lot to make sure it does not happen.

Task 1 – Editing in Early Cinema

The Great Train Robbery by Buster Edwards

The Great Train Robbery is pretty much the film that really took off and started the whole editing scene and why it is so important in Movies, TV shows and YouTube videos. The idea was inspired by the Porter's previous work Life of an American Fireman. The film uses many techniques that may be simple in today society but back then seemed like something out of a fairy tale. The use of (composite editing) really change the way films where made. the film was actually one of the first to cross cutting, which is when two scenes are showed as if the happening after another when the really are not. e.g. the train robbers are in the room threatening the worker then they end up out side that is not the camera following them but the main video being cut so it seem like it is happening  simultaneously. In The Great Train Robbery the editor also coloured certain bits in this is another part of editing that real changed the way we edit today. It is also apparently one of the first (Action & Western Film) ever to be made.

Life Of An American FireMen

The film the Life Of An American FireMan is thought to be the the most important to the film industry as well as editing is considered. this is mainly because the film has a style of editing that was not used before it. It and The Great Train Robbery are considered to be the first films to use cross-cutting. this was a effective because it allowed the audience to be able to see what was was going on in both sides with out having to move the camera or make a new film/another part for the film.

This Film is argued to be the first film ever maid. The film is very standard as there was know editing or special effects and the were know ways to cut videos so it was literally and constant scene of the workers leaving. The Lumiere brothers factory. but thanks to this surposed first film ever we now live in a world today were films a scripted and recorded every day.
